Posted on September 1, 2016
There is just one month until the Rotary of Carroll County Oktoberfest opens its doors at the Carroll County Ag Center to an anticipated 1,000 attendees who are ready to drink beer and eat bratwurst! We all know that the food and beer top the list of reasons to come to Carroll Oktober fest, but here are 5 more reasons why you’ll want to join us in 2016.
1. The People Watching
Did you know that if you come dressed in traditional German attire that you get into Carroll Oktoberfest for Free? That means there will be hundreds of people dressed in Lederhosen and Dirndl. It makes for an excellent day of people watching and taking in all the wonderful clothing, braids, and smiles.
2. The Corn Hole Tournament
New to the Oktoberfest lineup this year is a bracket style corn hole tournament, sign up to compete the day of and bring your A-game, we anticipate there will be a lot of people to beat and a ton of fun to be had.
3. Barrel Rolling
Competitive barrel rolling was one of the most successful events from last year’s Oktoberfest and it is making a return this year. Two participants roll large barrels down a raceway and fight to make it to the end first. It’s a challenging competition that takes strength and focus. If you have never seen barrel rolling in person you won’t want to miss it!
4. The Music
It isn’t everyday you get to experience traditional German music, this entertainment is free and will have you schunkeining in no time flat.
5. The Kids Activities
Carroll County Oktoberfest is a family friendly event and there are many things for children to do there. Face painting, scarecrow building, pumpkin decorating, and games to name a few.
6. The Shopping
The event will host over 30 vendors so bring your wallet and get your shop on, it’s never too early to start picking up a few things for Christmas after all!
The event is not only a fun filled day for local residents but also gives back to the community, this is a fundraising event and is held annually by the Rotary Clubs of Carroll County-Sykesville. We thank all who attend and hope to see you there!
